Fetch an iPhone! I'm on an iPhone 6 with iOS 12.4.3, but I don't think this is specific to that device and iOS version (please leave a comment if there's a device + version this works on)
Tap the "Fandoms" field
The "Start typing for suggestions!" message will apear
Type a few characters, e.g. Test
Note that the message changes to "Searching..."
Wait
Forever
Because nothing happens
The "Searching..." message stays visible and is not replaced with a list of suggestions. However! If you tap into another field, such as "Rating," and then tap the "Fandoms" field again, that will trigger the suggestions to appear. Buuuut if you enter more characters, it goes right back to, "Search..." until you repeat the process.
After you type your characters, "Search..." should be replaced with a list of suggestions. The list should be updated if you enter more characters.
iPhone SE, iOS 13.7, Brave browser
typed “Sta” into the fandom field
autocomplete with many fandom suggestions popped up
works for me!
As a chronic tablet wrangler, I will point out that this also happens on an iPad, affects all fields not just the fandoms field, and you can also get the suggestions to come up by re-tapping into the same field you are typing in (no need to switch fields temporarily).
But anyway:
iPad Pro 10.5, iOS 14.0.1, Safari
also tested Chrome
also tested both browsers on an iPhone 6s (iOS 13.6.1)
tested synonym of, fandoms, characters, metatags, relationships, subtags, synonyms fields
all worked fine
Temporarily reverting this since it was initially included in a different pull request that I needed to revert. Will open a new one with the same changes momentarily.
iPhone X, iOS 14.2, Chrome & Safari
I went to https://test.archiveofourown.org/works/search
Typed “Who” into the fandom field
A number of Who related fandoms popped up
iPhone 11 Pro, iOS 14.2, Safari
Tried in the work search form with Supernatural, and it showed a steadily updated list of fandom suggestions as I typed. \o/ Also tried on a works page in the filter bar (in the “Other tags to include” field) and that also worked! Whoo!
